A patent portfolio is the collection of patents and patent applications which you or your company owns. Portfolio management is your tool to control the development and composition of your portfolio.

Why portfolio management?

Good portfolio management ensures good alignment between your business strategies and your patent portfolio. This alignment is essential, if you want to make money on your investments in patents. If you lack this, your patents may fail to protect the products that generate your income or you may lack patent protection in the countries in which your future growth shall come from. If you on the other hand have good alignment, you have established a strong barrier for your competitors in the important market places and are most likely well on the way to a solid income.

Guardian's tools for portfolio management

At Guardian we are interested in our clients' business and good portfolio management tools are important for us.

In some of our cases we use the software system Ipendo®, which we offer to administrate for our clients. Ipendo gives a good overview of the patent porfolio due to its intuitive graphical user interface and makes it possible to prepare good budget estimates for future patent costs.

In addition we have developed our own tools which we use together with our clients in order to ensure alignment between their patents and their business.
